My Takeaway from the webinar “The Hacker's Journey: A Guide to Getting into Cybersecurity”

The webinar I attended was “The Hacker's Journey: A Guide to Getting into Cybersecurity,” held on September 20, 2015, which was hosted by Qubit in both Google Meet and FaceBook Live, alongside their resource speaker, Mr. Mark Angelo P. Santonil, a Systems Security Administrator at Skydev.Solutions. The webinar discussed the key insights into today’s digital threat landscape and practical strategies for safeguarding data and systems. Included during this webinar was a Capture the Flag (CTF) challenge, a hands-on cybersecurity activity designed to enable the participants to test their problem-solving and ethical hacking skills.

From the webinar, I learned how cybersecurity is a broad topic; there are ranges from investigation and analysis to prevention and defense. Also, the different tools for domains where you can learn some of the critical skills needed. And sometimes a picture is not just a picture, that there is hidden data inside of it where you can find a message.

I also learned what web exploitation is, including the common exploits and scenarios. It also talks about forensics, which I understand now—how the term used in cybersecurity is really like an actual investigation. But my biggest takeaway from this webinar is that cybersecurity is not just about hacking or attacking online platforms but also defending or protecting from dangerous risks and attacks.
